Do You Know the Right Way to Apply Bronzer?

It's the dead of winter and many of us are walking around with skin the color of a whale's underbelly. If you want to look as if you just returned from an August vacation in the South of France, add bronzer to your bevy of beauty staples.
Used year-round, bronzer gives you a healthy glow. But used wrong and you can look like the orange victim of a self-tanner mishap. Here's an explanation of How to Apply Bronzer. Basically, you hit all the spots where the sun naturally shines. And don't forget (as I sometimes do) to blow off the excess powder from your brush.

How to Get Perfect, Red Carpet Nude Lips Like Rihanna's

Wednesday January 5, 2011

You see those red carpet nude lips I'm talking about. The ones that go oh-so-perfectly with the smokey eyes? If you're wondering how to get them yourself, have no fears, nude lips were not made for celebrities only. Rihanna's makeup artist Mylah Morales shares with InStyle.com how she created the perfect nude lip for New Years in Vegas. The secret lies in choosing a lip shade that's closest to your natural skin tone. A bit of gloss placed over the lipstick adds the perfect bit of shine. You can then play up the eyes and add a swipe of bronzer to make skin glow like it's August and you just so happen to be in the South of France.

See the Picture of Katy Perry That Russell Brand Tweeted, Then Deleted

Sunday January 2, 2011
In the latest rendition of Stars Without Makeup, we have Katy Perry looking pimply and makeup-free in a photo shot by her husband and Tweeted for all the world to see before he yanked it off Twitter (but not before someone grabbed a screenshot).
Check it out here on New York Magazine's Website.
This picture proves to me what I've suspected all along: Makeup can make anyone look 100 times better. I walk down the street in New York by dozens of women who look just like this every day. Perhaps this picture will drive many to the makeup counter for a makeover this year.

25 Makeup Tips for Older Women

Sunday January 16, 2011

Back in November, 2007, I wrote a blog post detailing a few makeup and hairstyle tips for older women and the comments flew in from happy women begging for more. (Read that blog post here).
In honor of them, I've compiled my 25 best makeup tips for older women. Find out how to conceal wrinkles, crow's feet, crepe-y lids and a double chin. In honor of the upcoming William and Kate wedding, I've pictured the ever-gorgeous Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Announcing the Readers' Choice Awards: Nominate Your Favorite Beauty Products

Thursday January 13, 2011

If you are like me, you have your absolute favorite mascara, moisturizer, lip gloss and shampoo. In fact, just this week my friend Olga called me from San Francisco asking what eyeshadow she should buy and I told her the brand I loved and she headed to the department store today to try it out.
Now you get to nominate your favorite beauty products in the Readers' Choice Awards. Nominations opened today across About.com and on the Style channel, you get to plug your favorite hair, makeup and skincare products plus much more. I'm hosting the department store brand awards (click here to make your vote), but there are other fun topics as well.
Here's a round-up (click on the nomination form to place your vote):
No matter who you are or what you do for a living let your vote be heard! The nomination period opened today and will close on February 4th at midnight (EST). We will then tally the votes and show the top 3-5 from each category. Then you get to vote on your favorite from the top products nominated. So help your favorite product or line make the cut!

Beauty

Nothing screams, "I am vain," quite like someone who reeks of cologne or perfume (in fact, I prefer men fragrance-free). So where to spray and how to properly do it without fumigating everyone on the elevator? I like to spray perfume in the air and then walk into it. I also dab a bit on the back of my wrists, knees and neck.
You should never rub, because rubbing crushes the molecules of the fragrance and could ruin the scent. Some beauty editors only spritz the inner elbows and behind the knees because the fragrance stays a little moist and it turns out fragrance works best just a little bit humid.
This week, my esteemed colleague and About.com's fragrance expert, Cathy Helbig, shares how to apply fragrance so it lasts longer. Check out "How and Where to Apply Perfume So It Lasts Longer." I absolutely love her Coco Chanel quote.

From a Texan's Perspective, OPI's New Texas Collection Doesn't Disappoint

Monday January 31, 2011

I was born and bred in Texas and like most Texans, I'm very proud of my home state so when OPI announced that in February, it will be launching a new collection of shades based on the Lone Star State, I was thrilled.
The shades, created around the colors found in the state's varied topography (greens, browns, pinks, coral, silvers and metallic turquoise) don't disappoint. Known for their kitschy names, OPI has gone all out with this collection. See a slideshow of all the new shades and let me know your favorites in the comment section below.
Available in February, visit the OPI Website for more information.

Best Eye Creams; Plus, a Few Anti-Aging Tips

Saturday January 29, 2011

It seems everyone I know over 35 has one question for me when they find out I'm a beauty editor: What anti-aging products do I recommend. Since the first signs of aging are around the eyes, people usually want to know about eye creams. So I've compiled my list of favorite eye creams from fancy and fabulous to the best deals at the drugstore.
Everyone wants to look 5-10 years younger than they are (just like everyone wants to be above-average, right?), so aside from wearing eye cream, here's how to do just that...
  • Prevent wrinkles. Wear sunscreen every day even when it's cloudy. See my list of the best sunscreens.
  • Fix the wrinkles you have by using a prescription retinoid like Renova or Retin-A. Retinoids boost collagen production. See "Is Retin-A the secret to youthful skin?"
  • Give your skin life with antioxidants. Antioxidants such as Vitamin C cream repair what has been damaged by sun exposure, smoking, the natural aging process and more. There's more on antioxidants in "How to get rid of wrinkles."
  • Slough off dead skin on a weekly basis with a scrub made for the face. Check out my list of the best scrubs.
  • It's very important to choose cleansers, moisturizers and a skin care routine based on your skin type. Use products formulated for dry, oily or combination skin and if you have sensitive skin, consult a dermatologist on the best skincare routine for you. See my lists of the best cleansers and moisturizers.

Fictitious domain name

A fictitious domain name is a domain name used in a work of fiction or popular culture to refer to a domain that does not actually exist, often with invalid or unofficial top-level domains, such as ".web".
Domain names used in works of fiction have often been registered in the DNS, either by their creators or by cybersquatters attempting to profit from it.[citation needed] This phenomenon prompted NBC to purchase the domain name Hornymanatee.com after talk-show host Conan O'Brien spoke the name while ad-libbing on his show. O'Brien subsequently created a website based on the concept and used it as a running gag on the show.[17]
